Michael Freeman

Executive Director of the Genesee County Land Bank Authority

Michael Freeman is currently the Executive Director of the Genesee County Land Bank Authority. Previously, Michael served as the Chief Operating Officer of the City of Detroit’s Housing and Revitalization Department. In this capacity, he directed and oversaw the Community Development Block Grant program for the City of Detroit. Michael, a graduate of the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, began his career as a community organizer with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)/AmeriCorps program in 1994, where he worked to facilitate dialogue/consensus among community stakeholders, neighborhood planning, and community advocacy in Flint, Michigan. This work led to a 28 year career commitment to civil service and nonprofit work supporting community and economic development in Flint and nationally. The Genesee County Land Bank Authority mission is to restore value to the community by acquiring, developing and selling vacant land and abandoned properties in cooperation with stakeholders who value responsible land ownership.
