Grave Care Maintenance Services

Many cities and towns have created cemeteries throughout their histories, making them responsible for upkeep and management. But many communities struggle with funding basic maintenance needs. Between an increase in fuel prices for equipment and the growing number of graves to tend, communities often fail to meet basic needs. This project explores the feasibility of a grave care maintenance business model that would be offered to people who want extra care given to the grave site of interred family members. Grave care maintenance can include plot maintenance, monument cleaning, maintenance and repair, plus many other services. There is great demand for these types of services. Two UM-Flint student research assistants assist with the market inventory and creation of an interactive map of locations. The business model is most likely to be tested in the Flint’s Civic Park neighborhood as a part of the existing workforce development program, Flint Grounds Crew.
